Product information "Adler Model Kit scale G"

The Adler locomotive was the first steam locomotive to be used in Germany and marked the beginning of the railway age in the country. It was built in 1835 by the British company George and Robert Stephenson in Newcastle and went into service on the newly opened Ludwigsbahn between Nuremberg and Fürth on 7 December 1835. The Adler pulled the first official railway trains on German soil and thus heralded the country's industrial development.
Technical features

The Adler was a typical locomotive of the early steam railways and was based on the designs of the Stephenson works:
-axle arrangement: 2-2-0 (two leading wheels, two large driving wheels, no trailing wheels).
-Weight: approx. 14 tonnes (without tender)
-Power: approx. 40 hp
-Maximum speed: approx. 65 km/h (with light trains)
-Fuel: coal

The locomotive had a separate tender that carried water and coal to maintain steam power during the journey.
The first journey (7 December 1835)

On its inaugural journey, the Adler carried a group of guests of honour on the 6.05 km route between Nuremberg and Fürth. The journey took just 9 minutes - a significant advance compared to horse-drawn carriages, which took around half an hour to cover the same distance. The new railway was received with great enthusiasm by the population.
Significance and influence

The introduction of the Adler marked the beginning of the modern railway in Germany and made a significant contribution to economic development. It proved the efficiency of steam power in transport and promoted the expansion of further railway lines. German industry quickly recognised the potential of the railway, and a dense rail network was created over the following decades.

Although the Adler was decommissioned in 1857, it remains an important symbol of the progress of industrialisation in Germany. A faithful replica was built in 1935 to mark the 100th anniversary of the railway and is now in the Deutsches Museum in Munich.

The kit contains all the materials required to build the model. The parts are cleanly and precisely laser cut. Fittings are made of brass and aluminium. Paints/adhesives/tools are required and are not included in the kit.
